Why Participate in the DOS Bird-A-Thon?
First, it’s FUN (and there are some great prizes)!
Here’s a superb opportunity for you to contribute to bird conservation in Delaware. Through an alliance with The Conservation Fund, America’s foremost non-profit conservation organization dedicated to protecting wildlife habitat, 97% of all proceeds will go directly towards purchasing land in Delaware as well as addressing other conservation issues. This land provides species such as the Red Knot rufa with a vital migratory shorebird habitat. Spend a few hours, an afternoon, or all day enjoying nature and watching migrating flocks of birds for the worthy cause of bird conservation. It’s a great way to help the birds while qualifying for some outstanding prizes.

| What is a Bird-A-Thon? |
| A Bird-A-Thon is a fundraiser much like a walk-a-thon or bike-a-thon where individuals or teams count the number of different bird species seen or heard in a 24 hour period. Each participant collects pledges from family, friends, relatives, neighbors or businesses for each species found. |
2007 Delaware Bird-A-Thon was a huge success!
Due to the enthusiastic support of participants from eleven states, as well as numerous corporate and business sponsorships, last year’s Bird-A-Thon raised over $28,000! For this, we are truly grateful. We are proud to announce that these funds were awarded to the following projects:
• The Conservation Fund for the purchase of 7 acres of shorebird habitat
• The Delaware Nature Society for creating and funding the Ashland Hawk Watch
• Support for the Cape Henlopen Hawk Watch
Our warmest thanks to all who participated. |
