This was Bombay Hook’s 88th Anniversary Open House and Spring Festival so our party was larger than ever and included many first-time birders. Partly sunny with strong wind gusts, temperatures began in the mid 40s and reached the upper 50s. A strong showing of Brown-Headed Cowbirds with males flaunting their wares from the treetops; a brilliant and vociferous male Eastern Towhee at the start of the walks; pervasive woodpecker drumming throughout the trail.
After the walk, DOS volunteers Mary Braun, John and Andy Dunn, and Joe Francis staffed the outreach table, which was visited by over 110 attendees of the event. The event’s showstopper was Phung Lu and his feathered friends from Dover-based Animal Behavior and Conservation Connections.
