A refuge for breeding songbirds!

Norman G. Wilder State Wildlife Area is a sprawling area of forest and farm fields north and west of the town of Felton in central Kent County.  It is a lightly birded area that is teeming with great breeding songbirds including Pine, Hooded, Kentucky and Worm-eating Warbler, Ovenbird, Yellow-throated Vireo, Scarlet and Summer Tanager, Yellow-billed Cuckoo and more.  We will be walking out and back on a wide, flat and firm dirt for a total of about four to five miles.  The road is mostly open to the sun so it could get hot.  Bring along a bottle of drinking water to remain hydrated.  There may also be ankle-high grass and other vegetation in some areas of the road so applying DEET to your shoes and pant legs is recommended.
