Date: 21 April 2024
Leader: Joe Francis
Unexpectedly overcast, gusty, and chilly weather for late April did not deter 12 hardy birders – 7 of whom were new to birding and used loaner binoculars – from attending the walk. Highlights included soaring Bald Eagle, nesting (and copulating), Osprey on the railroad trestle, a few remnant Green-winged Teal, newly arrived Barn Swallow, Green Heron, 4 (and possibly more) Great Egrets, and Palm Warbler. Birders should note that the Marsh Boardwalk has reopened following structural repairs. As Joe was packing up, Eastern Whippoorwill began singing from near a lamppost in the parking lot (audioclip on eBird).
Special thanks to Jeff Gordon for helping the individually mentor the new birders.
